  • Susan Cox-Powell Case Review & More 3-Days
    Course Details: Presented by (Ret.) Ellis Maxwell Lead Det. of the Susan Cox Powell investigation
    A thorough (2-day) case review of the Susan Cox Powell investigation where the mother of two little boys vanished in the State of Utah. Nearing the end of the investigation the husband/father/suspect cowardly murdered his children and ended his life in the State of Washington. This course will provide law enforcement & other professionals valuable insight & lessons learned on a circumstantial no body domestic homicide. Key take-aways; tools needed, the challenges, importance in working as a team, resources, multi-jurisdictional operations; managing personnel, evidence & building a case file. In addition, we’ll review other domestic violence homicides and discuss awareness & prevention methods. A Q & A will be held at the end of day 2 and day 3. 


  • Investigating Homicides & Officer Involved Shootings 3-Days  This is an interactive course. A basic course for all officers, detectives, supervisors with a primary focus for those who’ll be investigating deaths and officer involved shootings. Maxwell will highlight and target key aspects to a successful investigation. At the end of this course, all personnel investigating homicides & OIS will possess quality knowledge, the ability and confidence when approaching a potential homicide or an OIS. Audience take away; analyzing the scene, data provided, set proper containments, collect the appropriate evidence, learn key tasks to avoid pitfalls and key elements to interviewing the officer involved. Last half of day 4 will be exceptional for investigators, those involved and their families; all will leave with an understanding of what they’ll likely experience afterward being involved in a critical incident.  

  • Being an Effective School Resource Officer 2-Days  This course is designed to provide an SRO a clear understanding of how their involvement in the school and with the students can have a positive impact on the students and the community. More importantly; their personality, awareness, engagement and positive interaction with the students can contribute to preventing school violence and crime on campus. It’s a fine line working as an SRO in a school! You want to enlist the trust of the students, capture and retain their respect,  hold them accountable for their mistakes/decisions but also apply positive discipline. While keeping all students safe and avoiding any tragedies! Attendees will take away; positive discipline methods, how to maintain a positive relationship with the students, school safety techniques, critical incident awareness/preparedness, being an efficient liaison between the school and police department, understanding adolescent behavior and their home environment.
 
  • The Police Career 2-Days  This is a motivational interactive course. Students will walk away with valuable information; what to expect if involved in a officer involved shooting, anything they're currently experiencing or may experience during their career is likely normal, planing for retirement, preparing a career road map, the importance of education, plan c if they can't carry out a career in law enforcement, family & work life balance, losing site of why they become one to serve the public, being adaptable & flexible within the walls of the agency, police suicide awareness and managing that backpack filling up with exposed trauma. Very powerful, helpful and motivational.
